Rated 90-96 for every vintage by Robert Parker |
Winemaker Robin Moody is one of the most experienced and respected Australian winemakers. He has been the senior winemaker for Penfolds, Wynns and SouthCorp and now won acclaim for his own boutique brands Cape D'Estaing and Somerled.
The Cape d'Estaing vineyard, approximately 10 hectares in size, was planted in 1994 - half to cabernet sauvignon and half to shiraz. It is only 3km from the sea, on the North Coast of Kangaroo Island, at latitude 36 degrees South.

The palate reflects the nose with distinctive and typical cabernet flavours of cassis and moccha complemented by cinnamon-like spices and vanillin from the oak. The palate is firm but elegant.

Potential
|
The wine has a long life ahead of it, given good cellaring. It will show increasing complexity and roundness over the years. While it will go beyond 10 years, it will probably reach its peak at about 2008-2010.
