Port Willunga, which is located on the Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia near McLaren Vale, has its history in vast wheat crops transported around the world in the tall ships that adorn the wine label, and in slate for the rooves of well to do buildings in Sydney and Melbourne. Two ships calling each week to load up at the warf which at one stage stretched 200 metres out to sea.
Now days, the ships are gone and the wharf, battered by storms is a mere cluster of broken poles at the shoreline. The view over the rolling hills is more of vineyards and olive trees and Port Willunga plays host to tourists visiting the McLaren Vale Wine district.
The Port Willunga Vineyard range has been developed at Lion Point, Port Willunga Bay. |
